Now that the 2020-2021 Micro-Grant program awardees have been announced, SIPA would like to reflect on previous Micro-Grant recipients who have seen notable progress or improvements in their communities as a result of the funding.
In 2018, the City of Westminster received a special award in memory of SIPA Board Member Lew Gaiter for $10,000 to install automated library kiosks to increase literacy and engagement in the community. The NovelBranch kiosks hold nearly 300 books that can be checked out and returned easily by residents with their library card.
With the COVID-19 pandemic taking hold in early 2020, these kiosks proved to be pivotal for the community. The Westminster Library was able to install the kiosks at two recreation centers in the city, allowing the library to expand its services.
"We thank you so much for awarding the library this grant" said Veronica Smith, Westminster's Public Library Automation Coordinator. "Without it we would not have been able to launch this new and exciting service for our patrons."
